University of Windsor (Canada)
“Advancing Compact Accelerator-Driven Neutron Sources in Canada”

October 13. 10:10

Dr. Drew Marquardt is a Professor of Biochemistry and Department Head of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Windsor, cross-appointed in Physics, and an Affiliate Graduate Faculty Professor at the University of Victoria. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Brock University in 2014 and is an internationally recognized leader in biophysical research, with particular expertise in membrane dynamics and neutron scattering techniques.

Dr. Marquardt’s research program leverages neutron-based methods to understand the structure and dynamics of biological membranes, contributing to advances in both fundamental biophysics and applied biomedical science. His leadership in neutron science includes co-chairing Canada’s Neutron Long-Range Plan (2025–2035) and serving as President of the Canadian Institute for Neutron Scattering, where he plays a central role in shaping national strategy for neutron source access and development. A central component of Dr. Marquardt’s leadership is his sustained effort to bring compact accelerator-based neutron source (CANS) technology to Canada.
