ISIS Neutron and Muon Source
October 14. 11:30
Soft matter studies on a HiCANS source have the potential to be highly productive in many areas. The current ISIS small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and neutron reflectometry (NR) science programs will be reviewed in the context of what might be achieved at a facility such as the Bilbao HiCANS. SANS has historically demonstrated the high adaptability of the community and instrumentation to the utilisation of all types of neutron source. The proposed longer pulse structures of HiCANS sources can in some cases be compared reasonably directly with the ESS long-pulse structure. Some of the drawbacks of this and a 20Hz operating frequency on instrument resolution, data acquisition time, data reduction and analysis will be discussed. The impact of the use of the advanced beryllium plug geometry on SANS instrumentation at the Bilbao HiCANS will also be considered.
